Tummy Tuck

Nova Cosmetic Center offers tummy tucks to patients from Orlando and nearby locations.

Physical appearance is one measure of our health and vitality, and a flat stomach is one of the most desired attributes. Unfortunately for some of our patients at Nova Cosmetic Center in Orlando, no diet or exercise can reduce sagging or bulging of the abdomen. Events, such as pregnancy or weight gain, can cause the skin and sometimes the underlying muscles to stretch so far that they never return to their original shape. With a tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, by Dr. Jan V. Karlin, you can restructure your stomach area by decreasing excess skin and fat and tightening the abdominal muscles. For more information about tummy tucks, please contact Dr. Karlin today to set up an initial consultation. He and his staff welcome abdominoplasty patients from in and around Central Florida, including residents of Orlando, Altamonte Springs, Kissimmee, Apopka, Sanford and Winter Park.

As you are gathering information about abdominoplasty, don’t forget to look at our Orlando tummy tuck before and after pictures. Dr. Karlin will be happy to share these images with you during your consultation.

Is a Tummy Tuck Right for Me?

Many of our tummy tuck patients in Orlando have excess skin in the abdominal region because of significant weight loss or childbirth. An abdominoplasty can also improve the loss of skin elasticity caused by aging. However, the procedure may not be a good choice if you have plans for substantial weight loss or future pregnancies.

How is a Tummy Tuck Performed?

When you undergo abdominoplasty with us in Orlando, Dr. Karlin will start by making an incision in the shape of a “W” horizontally along the lower abdomen. The length of the scar depends on how much excess skin needs to be removed in the upper abdomen. Through this incision, fat is removed and overstretched tissue holding the muscles in place are tightened. Excess skin is then removed. In some cases with a large amount of excess skin, an incision around the navel will be made to allow the maximum amount of skin to be removed. In other cases a “mini” abdominoplasty can be performed with a smaller incision and a shorter recovery period. The lower abdominal incision can be designed so that bathing suit bottoms conceal it. Dr. Karlin may also be able to incorporate previous scars, like those from a Caesarean, into this new incision.

Abdominoplasty is commonly performed with liposuction or breast procedures. You can discuss this option with Dr. Karlin during your consultation. It is often advantageous to combine procedures to minimize recovery time.

What is the Recovery Process for a Tummy Tuck?

The length of time it takes to recuperate after a tummy tuck may vary depending on your individual health. After your abdominoplasty in Orlando, you must wear a compression garment or girdle for four to six weeks as normal activities are gradually resumed. Heavy lifting or any other activity that would strain the abdominal muscles is restricted for six weeks. The scar takes about a year to mature and to form an inconspicuous thin line.

Thousands of tummy tucks are performed successfully each year, and the results are generally quite positive. Nevertheless, there are always risks associated with surgery and specific complications associated with this procedure. Possible complications of abdominoplasty include infection, scar formation and fluid collections. Dr. Karlin will carefully review the risks with you to ensure that you have complete understanding of your procedure.
