Is Sculptra® Right for Me?

Facial fat loss, or lipoatrophy, is the loss of fat beneath the skin. Oftentimes, this condition results in sunken cheeks, hollow eyes and other indentations. Our Scupltra patients in Orlando are typically looking to treat:

• Deep lines extending from the nose to the corners of the mouth (nasolabial folds or smile lines)
• Lines extending downwards from the corners of the mouth (marionette lines)

• *Sculptra® Aesthetic has not been evaluated in areas other than nasolabial wrinkles and folds in clinical trails.

How Does Sculptra® Work?

Sculptra® is composed of poly-L-lactic acid, a synthetic material. Because it is not made from human or animal sources, it does not require a skin test. The poly-L-lactic acid in Sculptra® stimulates your own body's collagen production. This non-toxic, biodegradable substance doesn't yield immediate results; rather, the effects appear gradually over a period of a few months.

When you undergo a Sculptra® treatment with us in Orlando, you will receive several injections in your deep dermis. A topical numbing medication may be administered prior to the treatment to help with any discomfort. Often, our Sculptra® patients require three to six treatments, spaced about four weeks apart, to see the desired results.

What is the Recovery Process for Sculptra®?

Although the results from Sculptra® are not immediate, it does provide a gradual increase in skin thickness. One of Dr. Karlin's medically trained professionals will determine a few weeks after the first treatment whether additional injections are needed. However, touch-ups may be required to maintain the optimal effects, usually after a year.

Side effects of Sculptra® may include the appearance of small bumps under the skin. But generally these bumps are unnoticeable and are only visible when you press on the treated area. Sculptra® patients may also experience bleeding, tenderness or discomfort, redness, bruising or swelling at the injection site.
