PhotoFacial or Fotofacial procedures are performed with our Palomar StarLux intense pulsed light system using specialized hand pieces which filter light from different parts of the spectrum. Each band of the spectrum has a wavelength that is ideal for different treatments, such as sunspot removal and vessel clearance. Photofacial technology will remove skin imperfections like sunspots, age spots, and superficial blue, red or purple veins and reduce the appearance of Rosacea. PhotoFacials improve the skin by working beneath the epidermis to increase collagen and tighten the skin. The intense pulsed light is attracted to both the blood supply and melanin which removes unwanted facial veins and sun damage from the skin. Some patients have noticed an improvement with acne breakouts as well.

How does the Photo Facial treatment work?
During the treatment a thin layer of cooling gel will be applied and the technician will use a delicate, computer-generated hand piece to deliver gentle pulses of light energy to the skin. The process usually takes between 15 and 30 minutes, depending on the area treated.

What areas can be treated?
This treatment can be used on any area of the body. It is most commonly performed on the face, neck, and/or chest, and hands.

What can I expect during PhotoFacial treatment?
The laser technician will apply brief pulses of therapeutic light to the skin through a handpiece. The treatment time is typically 30 minutes, depending on area or areas being treated.

How does the PhotoFacial treatment feel?
Most patients describe the sensation to be like the snap of a rubber band on the skin as the pulses of energy are delivered through the hand piece. After treatment, the discomfort is virtually nonexistent.

What can I expect after and PhotoFacial treatment?
After a series of treatments is performed, you will experience a significant lightening of darkened areas and/or a significant fading of Rosacea as well as a softening of textural irregularities.

How soon will I see results?
The improvement is gradual and will be more visible with each treatment. Generally, three to five treatments are recommended for optimal results. After the first treatment, most patients begin to notice improved skin texture, as multiple treatments stimulate new collagen formation in the dermal layer.
