The Procedure
Treatment for Gynecomastia is an extremely common
plastic surgery procedure with few risks. More and
more men are visiting surgeons to undergo male
breast reduction surgery to help them feel better
about their appearance by creating a more masculine
chest contour.
Gynecomastia can occur in men of any
age, but 40% of cases occur in hormonal adolescent
boys. As many as 65% of teenage boys have
Gynecomastia. In 90% of those teenage boys,
Gynecomastia goes away on its own in 2 to 3 years.
Men with this condition no longer
need to feel uncomfortable and self conscious. The
best treatment to eliminate Gynecomastia is
surgery.
At your complimentary consultation
we will examine how much fat, glandular material and
excess skin are present before deciding how to
approach Gynecomastia surgery. To perform this
procedure, Dr. Karlin will make an incision in the
areola (the dark skin around the nipple).
Liposuction is usually the treatment of choice to
remove the excess fat. If removal of excess breast
tissue is needed, it is excised during the
procedure.
Swelling and bruising are normal and
will subside over the next few weeks. Patients will
need to wear a pressure garment as their breasts
heal. Scarring is usually minimal and will fade with
time. Direct sun exposure should be avoided for six
months.
