He then stretches the tissue to form a pocket for the customized implant. Once the implant is inserted, it secured with a suture or is placed beneath the jawbone's fibrous protective layer.

If you are undergoing cheek augmentation, Dr. Karlin makes incisions either inside the mouth, on the lower eyelid or possibly in front of the ear. The implant is inserted and attached to the already present cheek bone, thereby increasing the projection.

What is the Recovery Process for Facial Implants?

Once your facial implants have been inserted, common side effects include tenderness, swelling, bruising and numbness. These conditions can last up to three months. You may have difficulty smiling, talking or chewing for a few days after the procedure. Most of our facial implant patients in Orlando can return to work within five days.
