Several factors can contribute to the diminished shape or less youthful appearance of your breasts. These include pregnancy, breastfeeding, aging and even heredity. If you feel you have lost the youthful, supple appearance of your breasts, then you may want to consider a breast lift, or mastopexy, at Nova Cosmetic Center in Orlando. With this popular procedure, Dr. Jan V. Karlin can raise and re-shape your breasts to your desire. His skills have helped enhance the appearance of women from Orlando, Altamonte Springs, Kissimmee, Apopka, Sanford, Winter Park and other Central Florida communities.

Is a Breast Lift Right for Me?

Mastopexy is one of the most common surgeries performed by Dr. Karlin. Most patients who come into our Orlando office for a breast lift are concerned about:

  • a feeling that their breasts sag or have lost shape and volume
  • breasts that have a flatter, elongated shape or are pendulous
  • nipples that fall below the breast crease when unsupported
  • nipples and areolas that point downward
  • stretched skin and enlarged areolas
  • one breast that is lower than the other

How is a Breast Lift Performed?

On the day of your mastopexy with us in Orlando, Dr. Karlin will perform the operation in an outpatient surgery center, usually under general anesthesia. The procedure generally lasts two to four hours, and you will go home the same day. You will require a responsible adult to drive you to and from the surgery center and stay with you for the first 24 hours.

There are two common techniques for a breast lift. The incision that Dr. Karlin recommends will depend on your preferences and the severity of your ptosis, commonly called drooping of the breast or nipple.

Full mastopexy, also known as anchor scar or T-incision, is the most definitive in raising the breast tissue and restoring its youthful appearance. Dr. Karlin will start the incision around the areola. He will then cut vertically down to the underside of the breast and extend the incision along the crease. The pattern resembles an anchor or inverted T.

Crescent mastopexy, also known as half-moon incision, is commonly performed in conjunction with a breast augmentation to give the minor lift needed for patients with only slight ptosis. This incision is used for inserting a breast implant by removing a crescent-shaped piece of tissue above the areola and re-suturing the tissue in a higher position.

Any of these techniques can be performed in conjunction with a breast augmentation or breast reduction. At your complimentary consultation you will be introduced to our Plastic Surgery Nurse or Patient Coordinator, and she will explain the different options for you in detail. She will also take a complete medical history to evaluate your general health. Cosmetic surgery is an elective surgery, and Dr. Karlin wants to ensure that you are in the best health to undergo anesthesia and the recovery process.

What is the Recovery Process for a Breast Lift?

You will be seen in our Orlando office the day after mastopexy surgery for a post-op examination. The staff at Nova Cosmetic Center will provide you with a surgical bra that you must wear for the first month. You may experience some bruising or swelling, but pain is typically minimal to moderate and can be controlled by prescription medications, cold compress and rest. You can resume physical activities within the week, but must restrict heavy lifting or strenuous activity for several weeks. Sutures are removed after 10-14 days. Throughout your recovery, you will be seen frequently by Dr. Karlin and his staff to ensure proper healing and recuperation.
